Constant
Light
I
absolutely love to visit the light houses all along the Pacific Northwest
Coast. Those light houses are an image of strength and dependability.
But as I gazed upon one of my favorite light
houses called North Head Lighthouse, I pondered something in my heart. Do sea
captains of giant freighters, cruise ships and even the fishermen in their
little fishing boats still need a light house any more or even give them a
second glance?
“But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread
your protection over them,
that those who love your name rejoice in you.”
Psalm 5:11 NIV
I
was surprised by the answer I heard to this very question by a man who was giving
historic tours of North Head Light house.
“These
old light houses still bring a comfort to the men at sea. It’s like they are being watched over out
there, and they feel safe knowing they can always depend on the light from the
lighthouses, to shine constantly.”
A
lighthouse is an image of strength and assurance. God is our constant light and
strength. He is the One in whom we can find great comfort knowing we don’t have
to seek long and hard to find Him. He is closer than sea spray out at sea, the
whisper of our heart.
When
we place our trust in God’s unfailing love and call on Him to guide us, we can
be absolutely assured He waiting, ready and willing to be there when we need
Him.
God
is our lighthouse on the hill when we face a long a stormy night. His light spreads
hope and joy over us.
As
we look to Him, the light of His presence will preserve our life and lead us
safely to our destination, He will never disappoint us. God is our Light that
shines constantly.
