Levi's Wall

Levi’s Wall

There it was displayed so clearly on my computer screen- a most amazing photo of our little preschool great grandson Levi scaling one of those indoor rock walls!

He led me to a place of safety, he rescued me because he delights in me….You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall.” Psalm 18:19, 29 NLT

You had to smile at his look of victory and pure joy as he reached for yet another hold to make it to the top. Little Levi thought he was able to do all this rock scaling on his own, but he had forgotten that below him was his daddy holding on to the safety  harness and a hand lifted up to catch him should he fall.

All of us have had at one time or another a Levi wall to climb. Sometimes pride made us think it’s by our own abilities and gosh, we were doing so well!  But as will happen in life, one misstep, or one look down and reality sets in. If we make it, it was God who made it possible, never us.

Its times like this, one is able to recall all those impossible walls we had to scale in the past. All the times in the valley when strength was gone, and we couldn’t see our way. Yet there it was, God’s Light of hope and love shining a way to keep going. When we slipped and fell, it was the Lord who was our harness, it was His hand that gave us a lift up.

Like Levi’s daddy who would never let him climb alone, so too we can count on our Father in heaven to be there for us in every adventure, every life challenge, and every step along the way.

The Miracle of Plent

The Miracle of Plenty
It came as a surprise, a last minute provision most needed at the moment, and an unexpected blessing from God. But had the Lord made a mistake in the quantity He supplied to do the job?
“’What can I do to help you?’”, Elisha said. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil, “she replied. And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim!” 2 Kings 4:2-5 NLT
I stood looking at the old Beaver Valley Store sitting on the same quiet stretch of road since it was first built in the early 1930’s. “Looks forlorn, sad and embarrassed to me,” I said to husband Bill.
It had been painted a gaudy, and in uncommon colors for a country store-it was now bright purple and brilliant red by former renters.  It had been a noble effort to draw attention to passers. Unfortunately it drew more negative comments than positive.
Bill and I thought it was important to freshen it up with a coat of fresh paint in soft gray. We hoped, at least, to do just the front of the store. To our delight, God provided a blessing right away. A break in my contractor brother’s work, schedule opened up and Steven blessed us by driving from out of town to give us hand.
Now, what about the paint? And how much paint would it take to cover up those very bright colors? Would we be able to buy enough paint on our meager budget?
We had no ideas, but God was way ahead of us.  A few days before we were planning this project we heard from a man at our church who was retiring from his painting business and had one five gallon tub of commercial paint left. Would we like to buy it? We said yes and were amazed by his kindness and generosity. He sold it to us for the unimaginable price of $10!
Before we left from home to begin painting the store my brother prayed with us over that one tub of paint. He prayed what he called the widow and the oil prayer.
“Let it be like the oil for the widow Lord, let there be enough to do the whole job ahead. We can’t do it God, but you can.”
Steve climbed up on the roof of the porch of the store and began painting with zeal. With every dip of the brush into the paint he said he just kept on praying for a miracle the paint would last. The way to the end looked long and challenging to us all. But the paint kept coming out of the tub!
Now the three of us looked in the tub of paint, which was still half full, picked up our brushes and began what was left to do. Another stretch down the front with thirsty shingles hungrily lapping up the paint fast.
We were bone tired by dusk and we there stood before a fully painted store front with pint still left over! We shook our heads in amazement and we bowed our heads in praise and thanksgiving to God. It was a miracle the miracle of plenty of paint and a miracle of plenty above and beyond as only God can do.
"Faith must be tested and tried before it becomes real in your life, so that no matter what happens, the transforming power of God's providence transforms perfect faith into reality. The life of faith says, 'Lord, You have said it, it appears to be irrational, but I'm going to step out boldly, trusting in Your Word.' Faith is the entire person in the right relationship with God through the power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ." --Oswald Chambers, from My Utmost for His Highest

Greater than the Power of the Sea

Cape Disappointment WA by Dee Kamp

Greater Than the Power of the Sea

As I stood on the shores of the great Pacific Ocean on a bitter cold and stormy day in January, I witnessed huge powerful waves crashing high up the rock cliffs making a booming sound like a cannon being shot. The earth trembled beneath me and I could only stare in awe at such power no man could possibly comprehend or conquer.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” Romans 1:16 NIV

The truth and doctrine of the Atoning Blood of Jesus and His victory on the Cross at Calvary is the keynote of our salvation and hope for us all today as it was back then.

It’s paramount that we continually come to the Cross, and in its shadow the truth that it is our abiding place close to God.  Where all fears, sorrows and sins are laid to rest.

Let us be content to let the world go by, to feel the power of God’s love reverberate in our heart like the power of the risen Christ like the power felt when the great waves crashed upon the cliffs. For the powerful love of God is far greater than the sea.

So let us now be forever content knowing, God has conquered all sin and death through His Son Jesus, and we never face the fears of the world alone again.

“Napoleon, after conquering almost the whole of Europe, put his finger on the red spot of the map representing he British Isles, and said, “Were it not for that red spot, I’d conquer the world!” So says Satan about the place called Calvary where Jesus Christ shed His blood.” From: Springs in the Valley, Mrs. Charles E Cowman

His Answers are Timely and Wiser Than Our Prayers

His Answers are Timely and Wiser Than Our Prayers
Here it is just a few days into winter and already I hear them say on the news, “Will spring be late this year?”
Do not be anxious about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 NLT
I know that today the sun is hidden by heavy gray clouds, and the daffodil bulbs are hidden down deep beneath the frozen ground, but they don’t worry if the sun will shine again, or what strength they will need to push up out of the ground to thrive and bloom.
So, I find great comfort in God’s Word that all nature knows-from flowers to song birds, our Creator understands what we need. We can depend on His timing to be perfect in all seasons of life.
Oh, beloved, let us not say the sun will never shine again, or worry if the flowers will forget to bloom, or if God can understand our needs and the cry of our heart. For He is wiser than our most ardent prayers, more faithful than our greatest efforts to be strong on our own.
Oh the joy and comfort of knowing― God’s answers are wiser than our prayers, greater than all our fears and timelier than man can ever imagine.
“Therefore continue to wait in hope, for although the promise may linger, it will never come too late.”-Charles H Spurgeon
