Faith and Strength to Leap and Land on Our Feet

Faith and Strength to Leap and Land on Our Feet

On a drive down a far back country road in northeast Washington recently we found ourselves coming to a sudden stop for an animal crossing the road coming what seemed out of nowhere. All day I was hoping to see wildlife to take a photo. I dreamt of elk, a bear, or maybe even a moose. But our stop was not for a rarely seen wild life critter, but for a common white tailed doe and her wobbly-legged little fawn. What I didn’t know then was God was using this mother and her fawn for an uncommon surprise in my daily lesson in faith.

The weeks old fawn took two steps forward, two steps back following its mother, but stopped dead in the center of the road with its little mouth open crying to its mother who had already crossed to the other side safely. The fawn even turned and started to bolt back the way they had come. Mercy me, Bill and I were whispering desperate wisdom to that scared little guy.

“What is this little guy’s hesitation?” We both asked at the same time. Well, what we couldn’t know until later after I printed up the photo is there was a barbed wire fence between the fawn and its mother that he must leap through to get to her!

The doe stayed perfectly still. She made no effort to run to her fawn, but instead stayed stoic focused and unmoving. With a lift of its head the fawn looked only at his mom and took a huge leap making it safely to clear the fence with a perfect landing on his feet!

My lesson today was revealed in the scene of a survival lesson before me. Of one little fawn who trusted his mom and took its eyes off his fear and on to the one he could trust in the most.

When we keep our eyes on Jesus and not turn to our fears―we too will find His unwavering, steadfast and trustworthy love enabling us the faith and courage when we need it the most. Our Lord will always give us the strength and wisdom to leap forward towards Him to land us safely on our feet once again.

“Praise be to the LORD, for he has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.” Psalm 28:6-8 NIV

Constant Prayer Builds Constant Faith

Constant Prayer Builds Constant Faith

We may not be on our knees, our lips may not move, but the constant act of prayer is still able to be expressed from the heart. One plus factor of constant prayer, it builds constant faith to sustain us.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

 Ephesians 6:18 NIV

Saintly men and women in the past centuries show us by great example of how they prayed to God without ceasing. St. Frances of Assisi knew how to do battle among the men of his country because he loved to “fly away” and pray.  A man who preached across America on horseback, David Brainerd, spent his time praying endlessly as he rode through the woods and so fulfilled his ministry in a very short time.

Prayer is said to do one of two things for us. It will free us from the trouble we fear or give us the strength and courage to meet the challenges when it comes.

Focusing on the world brings little change. Focusing on the power of prayer reveals God has the power to change everything.

“Nothing is too great and nothing is too small to be subject of prayer, Prayer reaches down to the least of things of life and includes the greatest things which concern us.” Author: EM Bounds

Beauty of Reflection

Beauty of Reflection

We amateur photographers were called to the challenge of sending in our best shot of the beauty in reflections. Eager to join in the fun I searched my files and found I had several images of skies, clouds, birds and more reflected in the waters of my travels here and there.
It was then that the obvious came to me― reflections are only possible when the waters are calm.
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.” Psalm 62 5-6 NLT
When we come before the Lord in prayer and be still before Him, we will cultivate a deep abiding trust in Him developing our faith muscles for moments of serenity in the storms of life about us. It is only then His reflection within us is visible to the hearts of others who need Him in that moment the most.
Calling on God for peace in our prayer time and tranquility during those windy ruffling moments of life will portray an image of His reflection as only He can do.
Just as the still waters reflect the blue skies above, so our stillness in the storms reflect God’s strength and beauty in Him.
“Do not be afraid of silence in your prayer time. It may be that you are meant to listen, not to speak. So wait before the Lord. Wait in stillness….” Amy Carmichael

Let the Morning Bring Me Word

Let the Morning Bring Me Word

It is on my heart today to share with you one of my favorite verses from God’s Word in the Psalms. It’s a prayer, it’s a song, it’s one that blesses our soul to encourage us, and sustain us throughout the day.

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.

Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in you.

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God.

May your good Spirit lead me on level ground. Psalm 143:8-10 NIV

So, I pray for you today to let God’s Spirit refresh your soul at the beginning of each new morning to bring you fresh faith, high hopes in Him and the recalling of His goodness and mercies which are new every single day.

May you be filled over and over again with His strength and supernatural wonders of His divine appointments, miracles, healings, and forgiveness. Praise Him for the consistent signs of His love everywhere around us every day in the people and things that He knows will delight us.

Like fresh flowers picked early in the morning, pick a beautiful bouquet from the garden of His Word and it will be grow as new seeds of faith in the garden of our hearts.

King Sized Hope

King Sized Hope

The word "hope" is what gets me out of bed in the morning. Hope is the chauffeur that drives me through the day. When there is nothing else, there is always hope.

I recall a woman who came in our store often, who lived a very hard life. There seemed to be one thing after the other going wrong in her poor family. She often would come into the store and buy only one or two small items at a time, for money was short and they struggled to get by.  Her husband was ill and disabled, her children were often in trouble. But this dear woman always had a smile for everyone she met. She was the one who cheered others up daily!

I can still hear her say, "Even in the word hopeless, there is hope. And it’s easy to take hold of when I recall all that the good Lord has already done for us."

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD ,
I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.
Micah 7:20

A beloved book in the Bible to find words of hope is the Psalms. In here we connect in kind with David’s prayers and supplications to God in his trials and tribulations. The miracle of hope for him was discovering over and over again all God had already done for Him. Thankfulness for God’s unfailing love turned David’s heart from hopeless to a hopeful every time.

It’s too easy for us to forget to be grateful in the midst of our trials, sorrows and situations. But oh, how awesome and inspiring when we recall just how vast is God’s compassions and mercies, new every day, and how big our God really is!

"Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O Lord, you preserve both man and beast. How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light" (Psalm 36:6-9 NIV).

It’s too easy to put in God in a little box of hope when in truth He is God of the King-sized never ending- everlasting hope.

“When we thank God for everything that comes our way, we can enjoy a deep contentment in God that makes every difficult circumstance in our life bearable. We actually share in the miracle of God’s ability to change lives and circumstances through our attitude of gratefulness.”-Mary Dunham Faulkner from: Gentle Wisdom from Tough Times.

He Still Meets With Me Today

He Still Meets With Me Today

There is a seldom used two lane country road running beside the Beaver Valley Store that makes it way upwards in the hills called Larson Lake Road.

This old road was called Larson Lake Pass in the early days, as the old locals loved to tell us. They would say over and over again, “Many a model T would steam up before it reach the top of that hill. Looks kind of small now, but not to us back then.”

I loved this little road in those years my husband and I ran the old Beaver Valley Store. The hours we put in were long as we worked from early dawn to late at night. Soon I found this little road became my path to peace, quiet and new strength obtained as I prayed my way to the top alone with the Lord.

It was kind of scary at times too. Not from people but possible encounters with critters. Once I saw an old black bear-but thankfully, he didn’t see me. I delighted in the spring time to see trillium growing thick along the ground, and bright purple fox glove standing tall and straight along the way. The delicate sword ferns decorated the base of the evergreens and the fragrance was so sweet from the wet cedars.

Half ways up the road a little spring bubbled out of the side of the hill and I would stop to watch as little birds drank and splashed about, and the swallows dipped to scoop up mud for their nests. In the old days some people even got their water here, as it was good and sweet.

Jesus answered.  Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-15 NIV

Every time we come away alone with the Lord in the secret place in our heart we’ll hear Him say: “Come away with Me beloved, come and drink from My living waters and you’ll never be thirsty or lonely again.”

Now still, when I go for a walks in the morning, even though my footsteps are a bit shaky and slow, I still hear the song of that little singing spring, and rejoice knowing Jesus still meets with me today.

Our Stops as Well as Our Steps

sunrays through the trees by Dee Kamp

Our Stops As Well As Our Steps

Little Blue has been one of the best investments our family has made in a little pickup truck. There are a ridiculous number of miles on it, but it always starts up and is a mighty little work horse. That is until one rainy day while driving along and the defroster for the windshield stopped working and the heater quit. You could run one or the other but not both! And sometimes we had many stops before going on once again with a short in the wiring somewhere.

“Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love
for I have my trust in You.
Show me the way I should go,
for to You I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 NIV

We took Little Blue to our local mechanic, but he was unable to help us and suggested another fellow across town. Just driving there took two people to navigate and keep the windshield from steaming up wiping continually for the driver! One of us had to wipe and clear the windshield so the driver could see enough to stay on the road.

The second fellow who worked on Little Blue did so for three days and he tested everything he could think of to find the problem—but to no avail. Was this end of the best truck ever?

Once again we were sent to another mechanic who it was said, loves electrical challenges. By now we had little hope, but we took what seemed a long trip out into the country side where we eventually met a man standing by a huge gate to a farm, who looked indeed, more like a farmer than a mechanic. He waved to us to follow him down a rutted tractor path and we bumped across a pasture finally coming to halt while he swung open the doors of a cavernous old barn.

It had been more than week before we heard from him. Finally one day when the call from him finally came and he was shouting so loud into the phone Bill had to hold it away from his ear! All we could really hear was very loud noise in the background with his words barely audible.

When his words finally came through to us more clearly, we jumped for joy when we heard him say, “Your little blue pickup is fixed! I dug and poked around until I found one burnt out wire! Come and get your truck!”

Though it often takes much effort to find the person and place to get something we need fixed up and running again, I sensed this one of God’s little lessons on how we should never give up, have faith in Him, and press on until a solution is found, even in a most unexpected place and person.

Our God is able to heal and restore what is broken in our lives and He is able to help us with our stops and is faithful to guide us in all our steps everywhere, everyday.

He Never Loses Sight of Us

Cannon Beach Oregon By Dee Kamp

Good morning! While we were traveling to our latest destination to the ocean last week, both Bill and I started laughing about the remembrance of one of our first times we stayed in a little cabin over looking the ocean years ago in a huge wind storm. Humor often is the lifter of our fears.
He Never Loses Sight of Us
It was dark, very, very dark with no object visible anywhere in the rented cabin at the beach on the Pacific Ocean. The power had gone out with a flash and a bang loud enough to wake us up in the middle of the night. Having been a city dweller at the time I was startled at how unbelievably dark it was in that little cabin.
As I got out of bed I had to crawl on my hands and knees in an effort to avoid tripping and bumping into furniture, over suitcases and- our black Labrador retriever named Lady! That black Labrador in the dark was in perfect camouflage from my sight.
I felt absolutely silly trying to make my way to the bathroom on hands and knees in the cave like darkness.  I whined in dismay to my husband, “Are you kidding me? You really didn’t bring a flashlight?”
If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest ocean,
even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around to become night-
but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
To you the night shines as bright as day.
Darkness and light are the same to you.” Psalm 139:9-12 NLT

It was difficult to hear much over the wild growl of the gale wind slamming our abode. But what came through to me loud and clear was my husband’s gentle laughter as he climbed out of bed to assist me and the wild thump of Lady’s tail warning me where she was. How comforting it was to know I wasn’t alone in the darkness.
Though it’s impossible to see in the dark of night and the dawn seems so far off times to us― its faith in God that will see us through. Its confidence in the all-seeing God who gives us courage and strength when we need it the most. It knowing though we can’t see God― He never loses sight of us.

Little Treasures Along the Way

Little Treasures Along the Way

I stopped on my walk in the park and paused to step aside as the landscaper blew leaves and debris from the path with his hand-blower. Leaves tumbled away, sticks rolled to the side, but he stopped now and then with eyes staring at the ground. What was he looking for I wondered?

In that day he will be your sure foundation,
providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom and knowledge.
The fear of the LORD will be your treasure.” Isaiah 33:6 NLT
Then I was surprised to see the gardener stoop down and pick up a muddy penny and brush it off before tucking in his shirt pocket. Next he choose a little red leaf, and last a simple yellow dandelion flower.
He looked up at me, surprised I was watching him. I smiled knowingly when he said, “Just little treasures along the way to share with my little daughter!”

When I was going through a tough time of sorrow it seemed God was more than ever intent on distracting me from my thoughts by little treasurers every day. One day a bird unexpectedly was singing on the windowsill of my kitchen, another time a surprise of a gift was left on my door step from a neighbor, and one day a Psalm 23 experience when as never before, a beautiful deer came to lie down under our apple tree.

When the sun shines through spring’s rain filled clouds, when suddenly a double rainbow glows, when we hear a bird’s clear sweet song and someone reaches out in love and friendship, that’s when we see the little treasures God has provided for us all along life's way.
“Trust is born out of knowing three things about God: one that He watches over the details of our lives; two, that He wants to be involved; and three, that He has all the power and resources of heaven and earth at His disposal to supply all that we need. God is enough.” By: Mary Dunham Faulkner, from: Gentle Wisdom for Tough Times

Full of Joy!

  Full of Joy

Today I choose joy. Yes, the choice is ours. For many years I waited for joy to find me. I looked for joy in others, I looked for joy in things, I even looked for joy in a weather report!

I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.” John 17:13 NIV

A heart full of love reflects a face full of joy. When women are pregnant people will often say she “is glowing”.  When people fall in love they say they have “sparkling eyes”. This is due to an increase of love and joy within their heart. It’s not chemical, it’s spiritual!

Life is short, so travel in the lightness of His joy. Soar through life in the strength of His joy.

Jesus prayed for His disciples that they would experience the full measure of His joy, now, in this world as they travel on.

So let us stop and choose a bouquet of joy found in time with our Savior. Let our eyes sparkle and our face be full of joy to shine with His holy joy.  And like children in the rain let us jump right in the mud puddles of life and splash some hope around!

"Today, draw near to God in worship, in love, in joy, in the deepest of intimacy....." Jonathan Cahn from: The Book of Mysteries

Created to Withstand All Storms

Great Blue Heron photo by Dee Kamp

Created to Withstand All Storms

“They’re back!” I shouted with joy to my husband as we were driving by the thick grove of alders along an estuary nearby our home.
I stared in awe at the large rookery of nests built high atop each tree by the great blue herons.

“How on earth did the nests survive our record rainfalls this winter and that huge gale force wind that took down so many trees this April?” I asked Bill.

He said with a smile, “Easy, it’s God who taught Noah exactly how to build a weather proof ark, and it’s God who taught the heron how to build storm proof nest.“

I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will meditate on all Your work and muse on Your deeds. Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples.” Psalm 77:11-14 NISB

By each Word of promise in the message God in our Bibles we can depend on Him  for strength, hope an faith which will grow stronger and stronger every day of our lives.
Board by board directed by God,  Noah nailed them together to build an ark which was able to survive the greatest storm in history. And stick by stick a heron build to build a nest in a tree created to withstand all storms too.

So let us be encouraged by God's examples in nature, of His great wisdom and power and love for us in all areas and seasons of our life. For its true, He knows our needs before they are spoken and He is faithful to stand beside us through every storm, to sustain and hold us tight to Him through them all.
“How often we look upon God as our last and feeblest resource. We go to Him because we have nowhere else to go. And then we learn that the storms of life have driven us, not upon the rocks, but into the desired haven. “―George MacDonald

Relentless Untiring and Determined

Mount Baker at Sunrise Easter by Dee Kamp

Relentless Untiring and Determined
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love
for I have my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go, for to you I will lift up my soul.”
Psalm 143:8 NIV
My friend laughed as I told her the funny story of what really had happened to egg number twelve on that Easter egg hunt many years ago when our five year old grandson visited us.
Relentless, untiring, and determined were the words that came to mind watching him searching for those twelve Easter eggs. But for all his efforts, still one egg remained hidden. He questioned if I hid twelve. But I reminded him there were that many, one of each of Jesus’ disciples. But I didn’t know then what really happened to that one purple egg.

It seems that egg number twelve all painted blue and purple was indeed, really missing. You see the family dog went on her own egg hunt before everyone in the family got up that morning and enjoyed the egg all to herself. The evidence of this were her blue tongue and lips she displayed with her goofy greeting to us long after we all gave up the search. Boy, did we all have a good laugh. I even called the vet to see if the dog had harmed herself. But it only gave the vet a bigger laugh yet-all would well he said.
Just like small children in search of treasure, we too must never tire of seeking Jesus for all the treasure found in the beauty of a personal relationship with Him.
Relentless, untiring and determined is God in His love for us. The Lord is determined to draw us closer to Him in a personal relationship in the most beautiful and loving ways new every day.
With only a whisper in our weariest moments, while on our knees bent in prayer and repentance with laughter and joy for His blessings, we discover over and over again how God never grows weary of hearing every detail of our lives with Him.
“When my life fell apart I found a raw, real relationship with Christ in the ashes, based on nothing I brought to the table but based on His relentless love. No matter how great our longing is for God it will never come close to His longing for us.” Quoted by: Sheila Walsh

Children of Light

Children of Light

The sun broke through the dark purple clouds this morning at dawn shoving them aside like the strong arms of God. Intent were the broad beams of light brightening all the whole world around me that had once been dark and gloom.

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:4-5 NASB

No matter the clouds and dark days we may face, our hearts are able to be filled with the amazing loving Light of God. All children of God live in the Light. Some go from light to dark, some choose the glom, but children of God go from dark to light every day because of God’s gift of His Son.

As darkness appears as fear, sin, difficulties and anxiety, and more, we, as children of light turn and lift our eyes up to heaven where all goodness and hope comes from.

Lovingly, patient full of mercy in His perfect way, God moves us onward from weakness to strength, from despair to hope, from guilt to goodness, from weeping to joy, from ashes to beauty and from death to life.

God sends streams of light to pierce the darkness of dawn to remind us of His Light which is powerful and will always make the darkness flee and the sun t shine.

But She Wasn't Alone

 But She Wasn't Alone
Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Psalm 143:8 NIV

The petite little girl, about age eight, walked herself down the tree lined dark dirt road. It was a half mile in the predawn gloom to her school bus stop. There was always the risk encounter of a coyote or even a bear. But she wasn’t alone.

Beside her, assuring her with the consistent bump of his broad shoulders, was Caleb her faithful Labrador retriever. Caleb walked her to the end of the road not moving an inch until he saw her safely board the school bus. He did this until he was old and gray.

Jesus promised He would never leave us or forsake us, no matter our circumstances, our age, or the dark roads we must sometimes travel. He is the Light in our valley of darkness. His Word is a lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. (Psalm 119:105)

God’s compassion never fails, His mercies are new every day and He will provide all that we need for the journey, even as He did with one big Labrador retriever for one small child.

“Be assured that I never abandon any of My children, not even temporarily. I will never leave you or forsake you! My Presence watches over you continually. I have engraved you on the palms of My Hands.” from Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young

One Little Butterfly

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him
and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 2:5-6 NIV
One Little Butterfly

The calendar reminds us it’s the first day of spring today. It is beyond our understanding some years the whims of weather and the dilly dallying delay of spring’s appearance. But one look at nature and we are reminded it is God alone who determines the instant the flower will bloom and provide for the monarch butterfly’s need.

Today, perhaps we can’t see the answer, the way, or the why of the things as they appear. Oh, beloved by Him, the comfort we have of knowing our prayers reach the highest heaven and whisk away our anxiety as we trust it all to God’s wisdom and not our own understanding.

So today, let us lean our arms awhile upon the windowsill of heaven and gaze upon our Lord letting Him refresh and restore our soul.

Just as the little butterfly trusts the flower will bloom in perfect time for its need, so we can trust God can and is willing to provide for all our needs― and perhaps He will remind us by the sight of one little butterfly.

I will be your God through all your lifetime,
yes, even when your hair is white with age.
I made you and I will care for you…
 Isaiah 46:4 TLB
