The
Delightful Receiver
Knee
deep in torn and ripped up Christmas paper, the three year old cried out in
delight for the gifts she had just received. But after opening the gifts,
this darling child did something unusual and unexpected.
“God
saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this;
it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have
done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has
created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us
long ago.” Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT
One
by one this child picked up her gifts started giving them away to those sitting
around room. She was clapping her hands, jumping up and down calling out, “Presents,
presents!”
We
all tried to hand back her presents, but she would step back away and say “No!
No!” She even began to cry when we insisted!
“She’s
all mixed up,” her big brother grumbled.
Then
we finally understood what she was doing and waiting for, the joy on our faces
at receiving the gift! When we each thanked her profusely we were rewarded with
her infectious laughter making us all delightful receivers!
In
her innocence, this little child understood the joy of giving, and the
immeasurable pleasure in watching those who were showing their delight in
receiving from her.
We
are created in God’s image and we bring Him great pleasure when we show Him how
delighted we are to receive His amazing gift of love- His Son Jesus Christ.
God’s
gift of love is the perfect gift for all. Oh, if we could hear heaven sing with
those sounds of joy when someone for the first time chooses to be the
delightful receiver of God’s most precious gift of all- Jesus Christ.
